Jumping Jupiter!

"I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again!"

OK, so I'm not going on a jet, but I am leaving on a plane tomorrow and yes I do know when I will be back. Tomorrow is the first big day! We are leaving campus at 5 pm, flying out at 7:55, getting to Boston at 10ish and to the hotel in Rhode Island at about 1am. WOW! As if that wasn't enough by itself. Thursday is pretty low key. Nothing major happening that day. Just relaxing and going to the track to warm up, stretch and possibly taking a few jumps. (At least I will be taking a few since I didn't get in many today... I will explain later.) Friday is the biggest day! We jump at 1:00! Let me tell ya... the conference is competitive! It's gonna take a good day to get where I wanna be and at least a 10'4 jump. So the rest of the weekend I pretty much get to relax, watch the meet, and STUDY! We are supposed to get back to campus Sunday at about 2-3 in the afternoon. So it's a busy weekend!

Last Friday and Sunday I got some good jumping in with my dad. It was what I needed. I personally would have liked a little more pole time, but I got what my body gave me. It's so funny sometimes when your mind wants to go on, but your body is just telling you "Stop!" I've learned you have to listen to your body, it knows more than you do most of the time. I got to jump on all of my poles, which still leaves me a little confused at when I need to be on each of them. 9'10 is going to be the break it or make it height. I could go either way on that one, I could move up a pole or stay on the shorter one. If I mess up anywhere it will be there. So once I figure that little detail out I should be headed straight to 10'4 and a big pole! Just which one I'm not 100% sure of either! I know the 110 will be amazing! I got a little tester on that the other day and I am going to FLY on that pole! So that would be my pick, but again you have to listen to what your body is telling you.

Speaking of listening to your body... Today my body said "Stop! I hurt!" I wasn't going to listen because my mind said "Conference is in a few days I need to jump!" Well, Coach made the call for me and said "Go see Sarak (our trainer) and get some treatment." Oh the frustration! I still have a few things to work out. Like do I use the 100 from a 7 or try it from a 6? Should I jump at 9'10 with the 11'6 or the 12'? I wanted to put up a bar and try both and see how that went while also trying my longer run a few times. Nope. Things didn't go my way, as they usually don't. So now I'm here with a hurt back and a thousand questions burning in my mind. Lucky for me, somewhat, we have the track on Thursday and I can jump some if I want to. I will give you one guess as to my answer. I just have to remember the "don't wear yourself out" part. I will keep it simple, jump on the 11'6 a few times, run the 7, and try it with my 12' 100. I would love to try my 12' 110, but that might be over doing it just a tad bit I think.

Well, wish me luck! Its going to be a busy, exciting, exhausting weekend! I hope to have Internet access, if I take my computer, so I will try to post an update sometime Saturday since I will have nothing to do.

"Pole vaulting is such a head thing, You have more bad days than good days, and it's frustrating."
