The four most recent books I've read. I have decided to start doing a post book update in which I will give my opinions of the books I read. Don't worry, it is strictly my opinion and please feel free to argue or disagree. This should be fun!
I will start with the first three since they are the first three books of the Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini, a very young writer. I have to give these books two thumbs up, I would give more if I had more than two thumbs. The story line keeps your attention and the quality of writing is very good, especially for a young writer. Don't get me wrong, you can definitely see how he is expanding in his writing from the first to the third book, which is just as exciting to watch as Eragon and Saphira's journey. Through twist and turns and the unexpected I thoroughly enjoyed these books. I was disappointed however in the movie portrayal of the first book, which leaves way too much out and ends very wrong. What was supposed to be a three book series has now morphed into four and I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next book.
Twilight. Here I am torn. I expected so much from a book that has taken the world by storm and has been compared to J.K. Rowling's literary masterpiece, Harry Potter. It was a very quick read and in the end I was left wanting. Don't get me wrong it had a good story line and kept your attention pretty well, however the style of writing is very elementary and basic. I felt like she dwelt on too much of the little things and left others at a very basic description. Through the beginning especially she repeated herself time after time and I wished she had expanded upon more characters that play vital roles than just the main two. I think this could have been a great book with just a little extra effort on the writer's part. It was entertaining and I enjoyed reading it, but it was definitely not even close to being in Harry Potter's category. I have heard mix feelings about the movie, but it is supposed to follow the book very well and I am looking forward to watching it soon.
Next to come New Moon.
