What a wonderful holiday! A day to remember the sacrifices that so many men and women paid so that we could have this wonderful country and all that comes with it. A place where freedom and liberty are rights given to all equally. We have come a long way in the past 233 years, but some things still remain the same. It's amazing really how similar concepts still apply today that our founding fathers set in place. That is definitely a legacy worth remembering more than just one day a year.
July 4Th has always been a special day in my household because it is also mom's birthday! So of course as if the 4Th wasn't reason enough to celebrate, lets add a birthday! We always have a cookout of some sort, cake, and fireworks. When we were kids mom and dad convinced us that the fireworks were just for mom. We always found it interesting how many people came out to mom's fireworks, but as kids we just took it as truth. I don't know when we finally realized that it wasn't specifically for mom, but we still joke that they are for her.
Yesterday we had a cookout at my brother's house and it turned out really well. There was tons of food and even more deserts. I don't think we could have asked for better weather either. The humidity and temperature were down, which worked out quite nice. We didn't get to see fireworks this year but we heard them while we sat in the hot tub, it was actually quite relaxing. Overall it was a great weekend and I can't complain about a thing. I love the 4Th of July!
"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." Lincoln's Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863.

I am glad your party went well, how was the pie?
It was fantastic! But everyone else brought some sort of sweet too so my chocolate didn't get much gone so we got to bring it home. I made a cheap cheesecake from a box and it went pretty well.
