What's in a Name?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." -William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet

My mother, being the profession she is in, has heard a lot of odd names. Having a unique name is wonderful, however sometimes it can be the complete opposite. Some names that parents have chosen for their precious new one are just asking for them to be picked on or end up in prison. Do I really think a name has that much of an impact? Well as a matter of fact I do.

Your name is more than just what you are called, it is who you are and from where your identity comes from. Being a child in today's society is hard, very hard actually. Our children are way too knowledgeable about worldly things and they are learning at younger ages every year. How will that child feel when they learn from where their name comes from. A perfect example are brothers named Aden and Abetting. Sure Aden is a normal name that a little boy could have, but combined with this brother's name you have yourself a criminal record. How would you feel if you were named after a crime? (Yes that is a true story about two brothers.)

It is truly a shame that parents are setting their children up for not only a hard time being a child and growing up, because they will get picked on, but a hard life in general. People will be people and we are to the inner most part of us, very judgemental. Those poor children will be cursed with judgment their whole life all because of a name. This is something that is happening across socioeconomic levels and all different races. Please think of the impact it will have on your child before naming them.
