You know those days that are just good? Nothing goes extremely wrong and the ending leaves you way more satisfied than you thought possible? That was today. I may have said otherwise about 10 hours ago, but it all worked out. This morning we hit up REI, had lunch at Buccas, and went to Matthews alive. (Which was a little disappointing, except for the awesome car show part they added this year.)
Afterwards I learned we were having a cookout at our house, however I already had plans. I was pretty upset. I know what people say behind backs and I wasn't looking forward to having people say I missed a family cookout because I had something "better" to do. It turned out it was only Jimmy, Amber, and my grandparents so it all worked out. I hung out with them until I left to see my girls. I got the best of both worlds.
Kali was in town this weekend because it is Labor day and she didn't have school today. (She is in law school at Charleston.) So of course that meant we had to go to dinner! Not only did Kali come, but Fox did too! (Her name is Sarah, but we have always called her Fox because it sounds funny when they would call her up in the jumps. If you are third in line you are "in the hole" and they always use last names so she was "Fox in the hole." It kinda stuck.) So not only did I get to see one friend, but two!!!
We literally spent about three hours at dinner just talking. So much has happened in the past 6 months. Our lives have changed so much. Kali more so because of her move to Charleston and starting law school, but it is amazing how different things can get. One thing that was not different was our friendship. Kali was the first person I met on the team shortly followed by Fox, who was her roommate freshman year. We grew a lot in the four years that we spent together at Charlotte and I can honestly say it was one of the best times of our lives.
I was told once that when you are older you will find that is is your college friends, not your high school friends, that you are closer to and remain in contact with. I can understand that now. Sure I have some very dear friends from high school who I love dearly, but the connection to Kali and Sarah is so different. I out grew most of my high school friends and grew into my newer friendships with people like Sarah and Kali. I don't believe that it is a friendship that can be out grown either. All I really know is that those two girls are two of my closest friends and I love them more than I could ever express. Tonight just seeing them made my day almost perfect and put me in the best mood I've had in a long time. To be honest, it made me miss college too, a lot.
To top off a perfect girls night, we are planning a trip!! I am so excited! It's not like a cross country road trip, but Fox and I have decided that over Charlotte's fall break in October(because she is still taking a few classes to finish her second major) we are taking a trip to Charleston to see Kali! I haven't been to Charleston in forever and Fox has never been; Kali also has no friends there. She is one of the younger students in law school, most are older people who already work in law firms and have families, so she is finding it hard to really connect with her fellow students. There is so much in Charleston to see, but she doesn't want to do it alone. So that calls for her girl friends to come and help her out! We can't let our Kali turn into an antisocial butterfly, that's just not her. Plus we get a pretty awesome trip out of it. (Probably more than one.)
