He reaches for the hurting and despises the proud

"Not a poster child for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity.
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me.
Can I be like You Jesus?"
-Todd Agnew (My Jesus)

That is a great song. It really puts in perspective for me what Jesus did and how He acted. If you have never heard it, you should go look it up and listen to it. The words to the song are amazing.

For a long time I was trying to be someone that people liked. I wanted to be accepted and I hated when people didn't like me. As I have grown up and my eyes have been opened to the world, I have gradually started to realize that there are more important things than being popular or liked. That song hits pretty close to home for me. I know that I wore the WWJD bracelets back in the day when they were popular, but who really stopped to think "Hey what would Jesus do in this situation?" Before we can even begin to think about what He would do, we have to know Him. Everyone has in their head who Jesus is, myself included, but do you really know? That's what this song is about.

Jesus was perfect, but He didn't come to make you feel good about yourself. He came to save you, convict you, love you, and live as an example. Jesus was not accepted, He was persecuted and killed in a horrible way. He broke all the standard rules of acceptance and redefined the word love. Looking at the life of Jesus, I have come to realize that I will never be accepted completely by the people of this world. I wont have popularity and I am completely okay with that, because Jesus didn't have it either. As long as I am living, talking, and walking the walk Jesus wants me to I don't care what people think of me. Christians will be persecuted, but that should come as no surprise to us since Jesus warned us of this.

"Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?"
