VTech Meet Update

Well I was hoping to be the bearer of good news... but I'm not. I would have to say that I have taken several steps backwards since the App meet a little over a month ago, which is very depressing. However, I will not say I was completely upset with the Tech meet.

Opening was 9'6, which calmed my nerves a little since I have had a month off from training and just started working out again on Monday with only one jump day that didn't go so well. I have been so sore all week and just do a half a mile warm up and stretching felt amazing on Thursday. I was still a little sore and tight yesterday during warm ups, but I felt a lot better than before. Warm ups went fairly well, I almost messed up by starting too early. I am used to there being like 30+ girls so the runway is always full, but with 13 it goes really fast! So I was having to pace myself and make myself not take too many jumps. (I still took a LOT.)

When the bar went up things seemed to fall apart. I missed my first two attempts at 9'6 which had me really scared, but somehow I pulled it off on the third attempt with a really ugly vault when my step was almost a foot and a half under. (I always jump under but never that much!) Tech has a super fast runway which is a blessing and a curse. You are faster which is good, but it messes up your step and you tend to crush poles. The first was my issue on the first height.

Then something unusual happened... we moved up 8 inches! (It goes up by 6 inches 99% of the time.) I was excited! I was getting a chance to jump at 10'2.5! I was almost jumping 10'6 at App so I know I can jump 10' 2.5... Had I not taken a month off! My first and third attempt weren't that great, but my second was really close. (I was jumping on my bigger pole that I ended on at App.) So basically this meet was not as good as App, not even close, but considering my circumstances I am not completely upset.

Next week will be a different story. There has been a change of plans and all the jumpers are now headed up to Liberty University in Virginia on Friday instead of our sister school, UNC, on Saturday. Liberty will be a more relaxed meet with moderate opening heights. If I remember correctly they also go by metric, which would be 9'4, 9'10, 10'4, etc. Which will be amazing! I can jump 10' 4! (I would have at App.) So I am pretty excited about that. I just need to work on my timing this week. I was all off on that yesterday and I just wasn't jumping. So Next week I am going to focus on my jumping and that's it. I'm not going to worry about the bar or anything else, just my jump.

Upcoming meets:
Liberty University
Penn State or UNC

Clemson or App State
Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships (University of Rhode Island)

I have to share some of the lyrics to a song I was listening to on my ipod on the way home earlier that related to my day yesterday, well pretty much my life the past 6 months. Yes it is a Hilary Duff song, the only one I have, but I love the words. Every time I hear it I can relate to the lyrics and Hilary does a pretty good job on it too.

Someones Watching Over Me:
All I know is yesterday is gone
And right now I belong
To this moment to my dreams
It doesn't matter what people say
And it doesn't matter how long it takes
Believe in yourself and you'll fly high
And it only matters how true you are
Be true to yourself and follow your heart
So I won't give up
No I won't break down
Sooner than it seems life turns around
And I will be strong
Even if it all goes wrong
When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe
That someone's watching over me
