Happy Days

The smallest things can make me happy. My kitten, all seven pounds of her, sounding like a herd of elephants running down the hall. My checkbook balancing to a tee. The sun peeking through the clouds. A message from a friend. A memory. All small things when you think about it on the grand scale of our lives, but it is the small things that make life so much fun.

Things have been pretty boring in the little world of Shannon. Nothing exciting or new to post about. I'm just getting through the days really. I started my job search again this week after taking a few weeks off right before James left. I have applied for six or seven jobs in the past two days, all of which I am completely qualified for. I know I'm not alone in the frustration of job searching, I know all too many people in the same boat.

Along those same lines, I am going to count myself blessed this week. I have worked, or will have worked after tomorrow, five days this week! Three at Hallmark and two with some family friends at their business they own. I hate it, but it's money. It has changed my view of those people who call asking for money or trying to make a sale, aka telemarketers. Yes, that was the majority of my work for those two days and I loath it. However, I was much nicer to the girl who called me last night doing pretty much the same thing. She probably didn't want to do it as much as I didn't, but it's money. So I was polite and nice, but kindly refused. It wasn't her fault the company she works for needs business. I guess that was my lesson of the week.

No strike that, I had another lesson on Tuesday. We have a frequent Jehovah Witnesses that comes around, always the same woman. She is extremely nice and usually just gives us some papers, quotes a Bible verse, and talks about how life is going for us. I have talked to her a few times and never has she pressured me into converting to her religion. We have made it perfectly clear where we stand and she seems to respect that. However, I wasn't wanting to deal with her that day so I was going to hide and ignore her. I don't know why I went to the door, I didn't want to at all, but I did. She did her normal thing and then just talked. Somewhere we got to me looking for a job and she actually recommend a marketing company where her friend works that has been hiring a lot of new employees. I looked into it after she left and she was right! So I guess that was another lesson for me and my reward was a tip in the right direction, you never know where those will come from and sometimes it's in the least expected place at all.

You can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
