Do you ever think people are looking into things way too much? It's like everyone is looking for some underlying meaning behind everything that other people say. When did the world get so self centered and arrogant to believe that others really have it out to get them?
I read an article that got me thinking on this and we are all guilty of it to an extent. It has to do with the movie "Avatar", which I found to be interesting and well done. I have nothing negative at all to say about the movie. If you ever saw "Fern Gully" as a child you can pretty much get the general feeling of "Avatar" if you haven't seen it already. The underlying plot lines were almost identical, except "Avatar" is on another planet with blue people and "Fern Gully" was little fairy people on our own planet. In both movies people were trying to save their home, the forest. ![]()
All that aside, "Avatar" seems to be causing quite a debate. Some are calling it racist. That is something I did not pick up at all and even after the article explained it, I still don't think it holds a legitimate claim. I think if there is any political elements at all it would be 'save the rain forest' or 'go green' to save the earth. I could even make an argument for 'rising above your circumstances' seeing how the main character was in a wheel chair and couldn't use his legs. In fact, I think this movie did a good job of grouping humans as one huge race instead of pointing out one. The main character may be white, but there were plenty of other "races" mixed into his team that helped save the planet. They even have a strong leading woman who is quite able to take care of herself and put the leading man in his place more than once.
Which leads me to my main point. When did everyone start looking for something to offend them? Why can't we just sit and enjoy a movie for what it is, in this case a wonderful trip to a fantasy world. If people would stop looking for differences and things that offend them, maybe they would see how alike we really are. ![]()
