I don't think that is too much to ask for. When you have a group project other peoples' grades are reflected because of your work. You think that would be a motivator for people to actually do something! However, that has not been the case in any group I have worked in and I don't understand why. It seems like I always get the crappy end of the deal on these kinds of things.
Last week Tina and I got stuck trying to put together our presentation the night before and of course there were missing parts. So after a few nasty emails and looking up numbers in the UNCC directory to try to call our group members, we get it done. The whole time wanting to scream at someone. Sadly, that project isn't done. The presentation is, but the written marketing plan is not. However, after tonight I am dreading that part.
In another class we had a written marketing plan due tomorrow. I finished my part at 2:30 today, plenty of time to get it in the paper. So when I met with Tina and Krista I found out we had to completely redo one of our group member's work and the other said "here is what I have peace out I'm done." Now someone had to put the thing together, make sense of it, write an executive summary, include our other presentations in the paper, cite all the sources, uniform the paper, proof read it, and make the table of contents. Yea so we were stuck doing all that work. As I was putting the paper together and going through all the material that our incompetent members sent us, Tina and Krista were writing the executive summary. So why not call them up and chew them out? We didn't have their numbers or I would have. So Krista sent some nasty emails telling them their stuff was wrong and we had to redo it at about 3:00. We get a response after 5 along the lines of "oh that's fine I hope its going well!" Excuse me?! How about you get your butt to a meeting and help out, this is your grade too! So needless to say our quick meeting to put it together was not quick, actually it was like over 4 hours and I had to come home and work on it too. It is all printed out and ready to go 2 more hours later and about 30 wasted pages of paper. Yes we threw together a 38 page report in less than 24 hours. OK so probably 8 of those pages was contributed by our group members before they peaced out.
If I get a bad grade on this thing I am blaming them. The good part is we get to grade our group members and for the first time I didn't care if I was mean. Usually I feel bad giving people low scores, but in this case they totally deserved it and they got it too. Our teacher really does take those into account and I know Tina and Krista will have very similar reviews to mine. Sadly, I have the same teacher next semester for my senior seminar class and there is an even bigger project in there, not to mention he is a very harsh man when it comes to projects. Hopefully I will get a good group next time.
The countdown is one more day of classes, 2 days of finals, 2 cumulative finals, 1 regular final, 1 written marketing plan, and one presentation.
