Hello all! I'm getting better at this blogging thing. I'm sure someone over in Iraq appreciates that.
Today was a Kohl's day! Those are always fun. A little disappointing because I didn't find anything for me, but I didn't need to spend any money anyway. (Especially with vacation coming up!) However, we did go a little over board, but in this case I think that's a good thing.
We have some friends of the family who lost their house last week. No, not "lost" as in financially lost their house. Lost as in a fire ate it up. Not just part of the house was attacked by the fire, everything was affected the roof even collapsed. It is a miracle in itself. Everyone got out without any harm done, except to the house and everything in it.
It's a couple who have been married for maybe three years, so still newly weds, and they have a precious little 11 month old daughter. Matt woke up in the middle of the night to flames outside their window, after they had bar-be-cued dinner with wood chips earlier. He promptly woke up Kristin and told her to get the baby. She thought it was only outside so she threw on some pants, grabbed Macy, her purse, diaper bag and phone. If she had known the fire was already in the attic she wouldn't have even grabbed that much, but she got out. They called the fire department, who responded quickly. The roof collapsed minutes later. A few of the fire men were able to grab a file of their important documents, Matt's wallet, and their wedding pictures. (They asked where the important stuff was and were luckily able to get that much before it came down.) Everything else was lost.
So now they are living with her parents. Her mom keeps the baby some, so they have a crib and some stuff for the baby, but not nearly enough. So today at Kohl's we bought some clothes for Kristin and tons of clothes for Macy. (How do you stop? Those little outfits are so cute! Especially for little girls.) They are getting lots of stuff from people. (Mainly clothes and gift cards because they don't have a house for new appliances and furniture yet.) It's amazing how generous some people can be. There was baby stuff all over the house that people have brought them. It's almost overwhelming for them, but that's a good thing.
So how do you recover from this? Where do you start? Well you better hope you have a good insurance policy for one, even though you will not get out of it what you put in. Every little bit helps. It's just sad to think that everything they had is lost. Lucky they are all fine, but their house and all the things she got for her wedding just a few years ago is gone. Or what about the priceless things like your grandmother's china or bookshelf, those can't be replaced. It's a sad scary situation. You hear stories of this happening to people, but you never dreamed it could be you or someone close to you. This proves it can be. So be careful and pray for these sweet people. They need a lot, but that's something we can all do even if we can't give them anything. They would appreciate it.
Oh and the fire alarm did go off... After the roof collapsed.
